Thomas Gigler, 56, was traveling aboard the Carnival Panorama with his wife Michelle and their three sons on an anniversary trip when he disappeared as the ship sailed from Puerto Vallarta toward Long Beach. After crew members searched the vessel and conducted a passenger count, surveillance footage reportedly showed Gigler going overboard. Search efforts involving U.S. and Mexican authorities failed to locate him, and he is presumed dead.
New accounts indicate the family’s cabin was on Deck 2 while Gigler is believed to have gone overboard from Deck 11. His sister has also disputed a passenger’s claim that Gigler had discussed marital problems the previous night, saying the couple had been getting along well. Authorities have not publicly established what led to his actions.
