Erik and Lyle Menendez have been granted an earlier parole suitability hearing, tentatively scheduled for March 2027. Their next hearings had previously been expected in August 2028 after both brothers were denied parole in 2025.
The brothers were convicted in 1996 of murdering their parents, José and Kitty Menendez, in 1989 and originally received life sentences without parole. They were resentenced to 50-years-to-life in 2025, making them eligible for parole because they were under 26 when the murders occurred. The new hearing gives them an earlier opportunity to seek parole; it does not mean they have been granted release.
