Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky, 82, is serving a 30-to-60-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2012 on 45 counts related to child sexual abuse. One of the men who testified against him, identified in court records as R.R., has since signed an affidavit alleging that investigators and prosecutors pressured and coached him into affirming events he did not clearly remember.
Sandusky’s attorneys have cited the affidavit in his continuing effort to challenge his convictions, although the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office has described the recantation as “highly suspect.” Sandusky subsequently sought to withdraw the claim and pursue his broader effort for a new trial in federal court, but the state judge ordered the scheduled proceedings to continue.
