A New York judge sentenced Dmitriy Popov to 20 years in prison for the hate crime death of O’Shae Sibley, a 28-year-old professional dancer. The killing happened at a Brooklyn gas station in 2023 after Popov confronted Sibley’s group while they danced to Beyoncé. Popov claimed self-defense at trial but surveillance video showed him fatally stabbing Sibley after hurling racist and anti-gay slurs.
